23 Oct 09 - 24 Nov 09 - Existential crime thriller? Social science fiction? Not quite sure, but City & The City was a tough(ish) book for me to plow through because I couldn't lock in on the why of the whole dual/intermingled city/aparthied thing. Maybe that was Mieville's point. In any case, a challenging read, but well-paced.

Saw the movie. Then read the book. Like many of the reviews of the movie, I found the movie duplicated the book shot for shot. An ultimately redeeming ending.

RECOMMENDED - Completely amazing for any number of reasons, not the least of which was the fact that Wao is written as the anti-hero and as such, he's not altogether lovable. Instead, he's human, which means I moved back and forth between liking him and being totally exasperated with him.

RECOMMENDED - I tore through this novel of Cory Doctorow's at top speed. Read this and remember what it was like to be 16 and on fire with conviction that your cause is just..
